Meatball Sub Casserole

Posted on December 4, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a hearty and comforting Meatball Sub Casserole — all the flavors of a classic meatball sub in an easy, baked dish. 🍝🥖🧀

🍝 Meatball Sub Casserole

Serves: 6–8
Prep Time: 15 min
Cook Time: 30–35 min

Ingredients

For the Casserole

  • 1 lb (450 g) cooked meatballs (store-bought or homemade)
  • 8 oz (225 g) sub rolls or French bread, cut into 1–2 inch pieces
  • 2 cups marinara or spaghetti sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Optional: sliced pepperoncini or banana peppers for topping

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Assemble the Casserole

  1. Spread half of the bread pieces in the bottom of the baking dish.
  2. Layer half of the meatballs on top of the bread.
  3. Spoon half of the marinara sauce over the meatballs.
  4. Sprinkle with half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Repeat layers with remaining bread, meatballs, sauce, and cheese.
  6. Sprinkle Italian seasoning on top.

3. Bake

  • Cover with foil and bake 20 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.

4. Serve

  • Let casserole rest 5 minutes before serving.
  • Optional: top with fresh basil or parsley for garnish.

Tips & Variations

  • Extra Crunch: Use toasted bread cubes or slightly stale bread for better texture.
  • Spicy Version: Add red pepper flakes to marinara or top with sliced jalapeños.
  • Cheesy Twist: Mix provolone or cheddar with mozzarella for extra gooeyness.
  • Make Ahead: Assemble the casserole and refrigerate for a few hours before baking — increase bake time slightly if chilled.

This casserole is all the comfort of a meatball sub without the individual sandwich prep — perfect for family dinners or potlucks.

I can also give you a slow cooker version of this meatball sub casserole if you want a hands-off option.

Do you want me to provide that?
