Oh yes—meatball sandwiches are elite comfort food 🥖🍝
Here’s a classic, saucy, cheesy meatball sub that hits every time.


Meatball Sandwich (Italian-Style)

Ingredients (2–3 sandwiches)

Meatballs

  • 500 g (1 lb) ground beef (or beef + pork)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

Sauce

  • 2 cups marinara or tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Sandwich

  • Sub rolls / baguette
  • Mozzarella or provolone cheese
  • Extra Parmesan (optional)

How to Make It

  1. Make meatballs
    Mix breadcrumbs + milk first, then add everything else.
    Roll into golf-ball-size meatballs.
  2. Cook meatballs
    Brown in a pan with olive oil (or bake at 200°C / 400°F for 15–18 min).
  3. Simmer
    Add meatballs to marinara and simmer 10–15 minutes.
  4. Assemble
    Slice rolls, add meatballs + sauce, top with cheese.
  5. Melt
    Bake or broil 3–5 minutes until cheese is bubbly.

Pro Tips

  • Toast the bread lightly so it doesn’t get soggy
  • A mix of beef & pork = juicier meatballs
  • Add a pinch of sugar to the sauce if it’s too acidic

Variations

  • Spicy: Add chili flakes or spicy marinara
  • Garlic bread sub: Butter + garlic the rolls first
  • Cheesy overload: Mozzarella + provolone combo
  • Shortcut: Frozen meatballs + good jarred sauce (no shame)
