Lazy bacon-potato crunch

Posted on November 18, 2025 by Admin

Ah, “Lazy Bacon-Potato Crunch”! That sounds like one of those comfort-food, toss-it-all-together dishes that’s easy, cheesy, and totally satisfying. Here’s a simple, no-fuss version:

Ingredients (serves 4–6)

  • 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (or use frozen hash browns for ultra-lazy)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6–8 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 small onion, chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder or paprika for extra flavor

Instructions

  1. Prep Oven & Dish:
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. Layer the Ingredients:
    • Spread half the sliced potatoes (or hash browns) in the bottom of the dish.
    • Sprinkle half the bacon, half the cheese, and onions if using.
    • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, bacon, and cheese.
  3. Mix the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, mix sour cream, milk, melted butter, salt, pepper, and any optional spices.
    • Pour evenly over the potato layers.
  4. Bake:
    • Cover with foil and bake 35–40 minutes.
    • Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  5. Serve:
    • Let it rest 5 minutes before serving—it helps everything set and makes it easier to cut.

Lazy Hacks:

  • Use frozen hash browns to skip slicing potatoes.
  • Use pre-cooked bacon or even bacon bits.
  • Add a sprinkle of crushed cornflakes or crushed potato chips on top for extra crunch.

If you want, I can give you an ultra-lazy version that’s basically “dump everything in a slow cooker and it magically becomes bacon-potato heaven”—super hands-off.

Do you want me to do that?
