Kentucky Butter Cake

Posted on February 1, 2026 by Admin

Oh yes 😍 Kentucky Butter Cake—rich, buttery, and tender, with a sweet buttery glaze that soaks the cake just right. It’s basically the ultimate comfort dessert.

🍰 Kentucky Butter Cake

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

For the Butter Glaze:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch bundt pan (or 9×13 pan).
  2. Mix dry ingredients: Flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: Beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  4. Alternate adding flour and buttermilk: Start and end with flour mixture. Mix until smooth.
  5. Bake: Pour batter into pan and bake 50–60 minutes (check with toothpick).
  6. Make glaze while cake bakes: Melt butter, brown sugar, and milk in a small saucepan. Simmer 2–3 minutes, remove from heat, stir in vanilla.
  7. Glaze cake: When cake comes out of the oven, poke small holes in the top with a skewer and pour glaze evenly over the warm cake.
  8. Cool slightly, then serve. Optionally dust with powdered sugar.

Tips & Variations:

  • Extra buttery: Brush the glaze slowly so it soaks in evenly.
  • Pan choice: Bundt pan is classic, but 9×13 works too.
  • Serving: Great with vanilla ice cream or fresh berries.
  • Make-ahead: Keeps well 2–3 days at room temp, or refrigerate for up to a week.

This cake is rich, moist, and sticky-sweet—basically Southern heaven in a slice 😋.

If you want, I can give a mini cupcake version or a quick skillet version that’s faster but still buttery-delicious.

Do you want me to do that?
