I soaked my strawberries in salt water and these

Posted on March 16, 2026 by Admin

If you soaked your strawberries in salt water and then noticed small things coming out of them, that can happen. 🍓

Why it happens

Strawberries can sometimes contain tiny insect larvae or small bugs that live on or inside the fruit. When you soak them in salt water, the salt irritates the insects and they crawl out of the fruit.

Common possibilities include:

  • Fruit fly larvae
  • Tiny worms or maggots
  • Small insects hiding in the surface crevices

These are usually very small and hard to see until they move in salt water.

Is it dangerous?

Generally:

  • They are not harmful if accidentally eaten because they are natural field insects.
  • However, most people prefer to wash them out before eating.

Best way to clean strawberries

  1. Mix 1 teaspoon salt in 1 cup of water.
  2. Soak strawberries for 5–10 minutes.
  3. Rinse thoroughly with clean running water afterward.
  4. Pat dry before eating or storing.

Important note

Sometimes the things people see are just strawberry seeds or pulp moving in water, not worms.

✅ If you want, you can show me the picture or describe what you saw, and I can help you figure out whether it was actually larvae or just seeds/pulp.
