🍞 Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 4–5 cups day-old bread, cubed (white, brioche, or challah)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: ½ cup raisins

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. Place bread cubes in dish (scatter raisins if using).
  3. In a bowl, whisk milk, eggs, sugar, butter, vanilla, spices, and salt.
  4. Pour mixture over bread. Press gently so bread soaks it up.
  5. Let sit 10–15 minutes for extra softness.
  6. Bake 40–45 minutes, until golden and set in the center.

🍦 Old-Fashioned Vanilla Sauce

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup heavy cream (or milk)
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine cream, brown sugar, and butter.
  2. Stir until sugar dissolves and mixture begins to simmer.
  3. Add cornstarch slurry, stirring constantly until thickened.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

Serve:

Pour warm vanilla sauce over warm bread pudding 🤍
Even better with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Grandma tips:

  • Stale bread = best texture
  • Slight jiggle in the center is perfect
