Garbage bread

Posted on October 27, 2025 by Admin

Oh, Garbage Bread — the name might sound funny, but it’s a legendary comfort food! 😄
It’s basically a stuffed bread roll (like a stromboli) loaded with whatever delicious “leftovers” or fillings you love — meat, cheese, veggies, sauce, etc. — all wrapped in pizza dough or bread dough and baked until golden, melty, and irresistible.

Here’s a classic, crowd-pleasing version you can customize any way you like:

🥖 Garbage Bread Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (450 g) pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

  • 1 lb ground beef (or sausage, pepperoni, shredded chicken, etc.)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 bell pepper, diced (optional)

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or a mix of cheddar, provolone, etc.)

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • ½ cup pizza sauce or marinara (plus extra for dipping)

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

2. Cook the Filling:

  • In a skillet, cook the ground beef (or sausage) with onion and bell pepper until browned.

  • Drain excess fat.

  • Add pizza sauce, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.

  • Stir and cook for 2–3 minutes, then remove from heat and cool slightly.

3. Assemble the Bread:

  • Roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle (about 10×14 inches).

  • Spread the cooled meat mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.

  • Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

  • Carefully roll the dough up like a jelly roll, starting from the long side.

  • Pinch the seam and ends to seal.

4. Bake:

  • Place seam side down on the prepared baking sheet.

  • Brush with beaten egg for a golden crust.

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown.

5. Serve:

  • Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.

  • Serve with warm marinara or ranch dressing for dipping.

💡 Variations — Make It Your Own!

  • Cheesesteak Style: Sautéed steak, onions, peppers, and provolone.

  • Buffalo Chicken: Shredded chicken, buffalo sauce, ranch or blue cheese, and mozzarella.

  • Breakfast Version: Scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, and cheddar.

  • Veggie Version: Spinach, mushrooms, peppers, onions, and mozzarella.

Tip: Leftovers reheat beautifully in an air fryer or oven — and it freezes great too!

Would you like me to give you a Buffalo Chicken Garbage Bread version? It’s a fan favorite and super addictive.
