Fried halloumi cheese

Here’s a quick and tasty recipe for Fried Halloumi Cheese — golden and crispy on the outside, warm and squeaky on the inside! 🧀🔥


🧂 Ingredients (Serves 2–4)

  • 8 oz (225 g) halloumi cheese
  • 1–2 tablespoons olive oil (or use a neutral oil)
  • Optional garnish: lemon wedges, fresh herbs (mint or parsley), or a drizzle of honey

🍳 Instructions

  1. Prepare the halloumi:
    • Drain and pat the halloumi dry with paper towels.
    • Slice into ¼- to ½-inch (6–12 mm) thick slices. (Thinner slices crisp up more.)
  2. Heat the pan:
    • Heat olive oil in a non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Fry:
    • Add the halloumi slices in a single layer (don’t overcrowd the pan).
    • Fry for about 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown and lightly crisp.
    • Flip gently using tongs or a spatula.
  4. Serve:
    • Transfer to a plate and serve immediately while warm.
    • Squeeze over fresh lemon juice, drizzle honey, or sprinkle with herbs.

💡 Tips

  • Halloumi has a high melting point, so it fries beautifully without melting into a mess.
  • For extra crispiness, lightly dust the slices with flour before frying.
  • Try serving it with:
    • A Greek salad or roasted vegetables
    • Flatbread or pita with tzatziki
    • Or as part of a mezze platter with olives and hummus
