Fish soup

Here’s a simple, flavorful Fish Soup recipe — light, aromatic, and comforting, perfect as a starter or a main meal.


🐟🥣 Fish Soup (Mediterranean Style)

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 1 lb firm white fish fillets (cod, tilapia, haddock), cut into chunks
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped (optional)
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 4 cups fish or chicken broth
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • Fresh parsley or dill for garnish

Instructions

1. Sauté the vegetables

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add onions, carrots, celery, and bell pepper.
  3. Cook 5–7 minutes until softened.
  4. Add garlic and cook 1 minute more.

2. Add broth and seasonings

  • Add diced tomatoes, broth, thyme, bay leaf, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring to a simmer for 10–15 minutes until vegetables are tender.

3. Add the fish

  • Gently add fish chunks to the simmering soup.
  • Cook 5–7 minutes until fish is cooked through and flakes easily.

4. Finish

  • Remove bay leaf.
  • Stir in lemon juice.
  • Taste and adjust salt and pepper.

5. Serve

  • Ladle hot soup into bowls.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley or dill.
  • Serve with crusty bread or a slice of lemon on the side.

⭐ Tips & Variations

For a creamier soup

  • Add ½ cup heavy cream or coconut milk at the end.

For a spicier version

  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a diced chili with the vegetables.

Vegetable variations

  • Add potatoes, zucchini, or fennel for more texture.

Seafood mix

  • Include shrimp, mussels, or clams for a seafood medley.
