Croquette

Here’s a classic Croquette recipe — crispy on the outside, creamy and flavorful on the inside. Croquettes can be made with potatoes, meat, or seafood. Here’s a versatile potato and ham croquette version: 🥔✨

🥔 Potato and Ham Croquettes

Serves: 4

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 10–15 minutes

Chill Time: 30 minutes (optional, for easier shaping)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (450 g) mashed potatoes (cooled)

  • 1/2 cup (75 g) diced cooked ham (or cooked chicken, turkey, or vegetables)

  • 1/4 cup (25 g) grated cheese (optional)

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)

  • 1–2 eggs, beaten

  • 1 cup (100 g) breadcrumbs

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

1. Prepare the mixture

  • In a bowl, combine mashed potatoes, diced ham, cheese, pepper, and nutmeg.

  • Mix until well combined.

  • Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes if the mixture is too soft to shape.

2. Shape the croquettes

  • Take about 2 tablespoons of the mixture and shape into small cylinders or balls.

3. Coat

  • Roll each croquette in beaten egg, then coat with breadcrumbs.

  • For extra crispiness, double-dip: egg → breadcrumbs → egg → breadcrumbs.

4. Fry

  • Heat 1/2 inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat.

  • Fry croquettes in batches, 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.

  • Drain on paper towels.

5. Serve

  • Serve warm as an appetizer, side dish, or snack.

  • Optional dips: mustard, aioli, ketchup, or sour cream.

💡 Tips

  • Variations: Use cooked chicken, turkey, or seafood instead of ham.

  • Make-ahead: Freeze shaped croquettes before frying for quick meals later.

  • Crispier coating: Use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs.

If you want, I can also give a classic French-style Béchamel Croquette recipe — with a creamy béchamel filling and a crisp golden crust — very elegant and indulgent.
