Here’s a rich, comforting, creamy shrimp soup recipe that’s simple but restaurant-level delicious:


🥣 Creamy Shrimp Soup

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 1 lb (450 g) shrimp, peeled & deveined
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 3–4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced (optional but adds sweetness)
  • 3 tbsp flour (for thickening)
  • 4 cups (1 L) seafood or chicken broth
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
  • ½ cup milk (optional, to lighten)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp Old Bay or Cajun seasoning (optional but amazing)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Lemon juice, splash for brightness

Instructions

1. Sauté the aromatics

  1. Heat butter + olive oil in a pot.
  2. Add onion, celery, and carrot. Cook 5–7 min until soft.
  3. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.

2. Build the base

  1. Sprinkle flour over the veggies and stir 1 minute.
  2. Slowly pour in the broth while whisking to avoid lumps.
  3. Add paprika, thyme, and seasoning.
  4. Simmer 10 minutes until slightly thickened.

3. Add the shrimp

  1. Add shrimp and cook 3–4 minutes until pink.
  2. Reduce heat to low.

4. Make it creamy

  1. Stir in heavy cream and milk (if using).
  2. Heat gently—do not boil after adding cream to avoid curdling.
  3. Add salt, pepper, and a squeeze of lemon.

5. Finish

Garnish with parsley. Serve with crusty bread.

  • A splash of white wine (add before broth and let it reduce)
  • Red pepper flakes for heat
