Cinnamon roll is a soft, sweet pastry made from yeast dough rolled with a cinnamon-sugar mixture, often topped with icing or glaze. It’s a popular breakfast or dessert treat around the world.

  • Dough: flour, sugar, butter, milk, eggs, yeast
  • Filling: cinnamon, brown sugar, butter
  • Topping: powdered sugar glaze, cream cheese frosting, or icing

How to Make Cinnamon Rolls

  1. Prepare the dough
    Mix flour, sugar, yeast, milk, butter, and eggs. Knead until smooth and let it rise until doubled.
  2. Roll and fill
    Roll the dough into a rectangle. Spread softened butter, sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon evenly.
  3. Roll and cut
    Roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice into individual rolls (about 1–2 inches thick).
  4. Second rise
    Place rolls in a greased pan and let rise again for 20–30 minutes.
  5. Bake
    Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Add glaze or frosting
    Drizzle powdered sugar glaze or spread cream cheese frosting while rolls are warm.

Serving Ideas

  • Serve warm for soft, gooey centers
  • Pair with coffee or hot chocolate
  • Sprinkle extra cinnamon or chopped nuts on top for added texture

Tips

  • Use room-temperature butter and eggs for easier dough mixing.
  • Don’t overbake; cinnamon rolls are best soft and tender.
  • For an extra flavor twist, add raisins, chocolate chips, or orange zest to the filling.

✅ Fun Fact: Cinnamon rolls are especially popular in Sweden, where they are known as kanelbullar and traditionally enjoyed on “Fika” coffee breaks.
