Chocolate mousse

Here’s a simple, decadent Chocolate Mousse recipe 🍫🍨 — smooth, creamy, and rich. It’s perfect for a dessert that feels fancy but is super easy to make!

🥘 Ingredients (Serves 4-6)

  • 8 oz (225 g) semisweet or bittersweet chocolate (chopped or in chips)
  • 1 ¼ cups heavy cream (divided)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (optional, depending on your chocolate sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings (for garnish)

🥄 Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate:
    • Place the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
    • In a small saucepan, heat ¾ cup of the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
    • Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for 1–2 minutes to soften.
    • Stir gently until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
  2. Whip the remaining cream:
    • In a separate bowl, beat the remaining ½ cup heavy cream with the sugar (if using) and vanilla extract until soft peaks form (about 3–4 minutes with a hand mixer or stand mixer).
    • Be careful not to overwhip.
  3. Combine the chocolate and whipped cream:
    • Let the melted chocolate mixture cool for 5 minutes to slightly thicken, then gently fold in the whipped cream using a spatula.
    • Continue folding until fully combined — you want it to be light and airy, but don’t overwork it.
  4. Chill:
    • Spoon the mousse into individual serving glasses or bowls.
    • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set. You can chill them overnight for a richer texture.
  5. Serve:
    • Just before serving, top with a dollop of whipped cream and chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish. You can also add fresh berries for a pop of color and freshness.

💡 Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor. Dark chocolate works great, but milk chocolate will give a sweeter mousse.
  • To make it even richer, you can fold in a little melted butter with the chocolate before adding the whipped cream.
  • For a fun twist, add a shot of espresso or orange liqueur (like Grand Marnier) to the melted chocolate for a different depth of flavor.

This mousse is so rich, a little goes a long way! Do you want to add any extra toppings or try a variation on it?
