Here’s a simple, rich, moist Chocolate Cake recipe—classic, fluffy, and perfect for birthdays or anytime you want a dependable chocolate dessert.


Moist Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk (or buttermilk for extra moisture)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee (or hot water if preferred)

Instructions

1. Prep

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans or one 9×13-inch pan.
    (Line with parchment for easy removal.)

2. Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, whisk flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. Add Wet Ingredients

  1. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla.
  2. Mix until smooth (about 1 minute).

4. Add Hot Coffee

  • Pour in the hot coffee and stir until batter is thin and smooth.
    (The cake will be very liquid — that’s what makes it super moist!)

5. Bake

  • Pour into pans and bake 30–35 minutes (round pans) or 35–40 minutes (9×13 pan).
  • Cake is done when a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.

6. Cool & Frost

  • Let cool completely before frosting.
  • Pairs perfectly with chocolate buttercream, cream cheese frosting, or ganache.

Quick Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 2–4 tbsp milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Beat butter until creamy.
  2. Add powdered sugar, cocoa, salt, and vanilla.
  3. Add milk 1 tbsp at a time until fluffy and spreadable.
