Breadsticks

Posted on November 2, 2025 by Admin
Classic, golden, soft-on-the-inside breadsticks — perfect as a side for soups, pasta, or just dipping in olive oil and garlic butter. Here’s a straightforward recipe that yields tender, fluffy sticks with a lightly crisp exterior. 🥖✨

🥖 Soft Breadsticks

Makes: 12–16 sticks

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Rising Time: 1 hour

Bake Time: 12–15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast

  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm water (105–110°F / 40–43°C)

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • Toppings (optional): melted butter, garlic powder, sea salt, shredded Parmesan, herbs

Instructions

1. Activate the yeast

  • In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast.

  • Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. Make the dough

  • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.

  • Add yeast mixture and olive oil.

  • Mix until a dough forms, then knead 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  • If too sticky, add a little flour, 1 tbsp at a time.

3. First rise

  • Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise about 1 hour, until doubled in size.

4. Shape the breadsticks

  • Punch down the dough and divide into 12–16 pieces.

  • Roll each piece into a stick, about 6–8 inches long.

  • Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

5. Second rise

  • Cover loosely with a towel and let rise 15–20 minutes until slightly puffy.

6. Bake

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

  • Optional: brush with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic, Parmesan, or herbs.

  • Bake 12–15 minutes until golden brown.

7. Serve

  • Brush again with butter if desired.

  • Serve warm with marinara, olive oil, or as a side for pasta and soups.

💡 Tips

  • Crispier exterior: Bake a few minutes longer or brush with olive oil instead of butter.

  • Flavor variations: Add rosemary, thyme, or sesame seeds to the dough.

  • Cheesy breadsticks: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella or cheddar before baking.

If you want, I can also give a garlic Parmesan pull-apart breadstick version, which is soft, cheesy, and insanely addictive. Do you want that?
