Blackberry cobbler

Posted on November 2, 2025January 12, 2026 by Admin

Perfect choice 🍇💜 — a blackberry cobbler is cozy, simple, and bursting with sweet-tart flavor. Here’s an easy, classic version that comes together in minutes — no fancy steps required!

🥧 Classic Blackberry Cobbler

🕒 Total Time:

40–45 minutes

🍽 Serves:

6–8

Ingredients

For the filling:

  • 4 cups (about 1 lb / 450 g) fresh or frozen blackberries

  • ¾ cup sugar (adjust to taste — less if your berries are sweet)

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (helps thicken)

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)

For the topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ¾ cup milk

  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Pour melted butter into a 9×9-inch (or similar) baking dish.

  2. Mix the batter:
In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and milk until smooth.
Pour this batter over the butter in the baking dish — do not stir. (The butter will float up and make a golden crust later!)

  3. Make the blackberry filling:
In another bowl, toss blackberries, sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, and vanilla.
Spoon the berry mixture evenly over the batter. (Again — don’t stir.)

  4. Bake:
Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and bubbly around the edges.

  5. Serve:
Let it cool slightly, then serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

🍯 Optional Twists

  • Smoky touch: Add a pinch of cinnamon or smoked salt for a deeper flavor.

  • Crunchy top: Sprinkle a bit of raw sugar on the batter before baking.

  • Mixed berry: Combine blackberries with blueberries or raspberries.

Would you like me to give you a cast-iron skillet version (for that campfire or Southern-style crust)?
