Here’s a flavorful Black Pepper Beef recipe — tender beef strips coated in a savory, peppery sauce. Perfect for serving over rice or noodles. 🥩🌶️


Black Pepper Beef

Servings: 4

Cook Time: 15 minutes


Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tsp cornstarch

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil, divided

  • 1 onion, sliced

  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper (adjust to taste)

Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • ¼ cup (60 ml) beef or chicken broth

  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water


Instructions:

  1. Marinate the beef:

    • In a bowl, mix beef slices with 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp cornstarch, and a pinch of black pepper.

    • Let sit 10–15 minutes.

  2. Prepare the sauce:

    • In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and broth. Set aside.

  3. Cook the beef:

    • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.

    • Stir-fry beef for 2–3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove and set aside.

  4. Cook vegetables:

    • In the same pan, add remaining oil.

    • Stir-fry onion, bell pepper, and garlic for 2–3 minutes until slightly softened.

  5. Combine and thicken:

    • Return beef to the pan.

    • Pour in the sauce, stirring to coat.

    • Add black pepper and cornstarch slurry. Cook 1–2 minutes until sauce thickens.

  6. Serve:

    • Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

    • Garnish with extra black pepper or green onions if desired.

  • 🥩 Tender beef: Use flank steak or sirloin and slice thinly across the grain.
