Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos

Ingredients

Shrimp

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled & deveined
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
  • 3/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Oil, for frying

Bang Bang Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1–2 tbsp sriracha (adjust heat)
  • 1 tsp honey (optional)

Slaw

  • 2 cups shredded cabbage or coleslaw mix
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt, to taste

Tacos

  • 8 small flour or corn tortillas
  • Optional toppings: avocado slices, green onions, extra cilantro

Instructions

  1. Marinate Shrimp
    • Place shrimp in buttermilk with a pinch of salt.
    • Let soak 10–15 minutes.
  2. Make Sauce
    • Whisk together mayo, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and honey.
    • Set aside.
  3. Prep Coating
    • In a bowl, mix cornstarch, flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Fry Shrimp
    • Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
    • Remove shrimp from buttermilk, coat in flour mixture.
    • Fry in batches 2–3 minutes, until golden and crispy.
    • Drain on paper towels.
  5. Toss Shrimp
    • Gently toss hot shrimp with half of the bang bang sauce.
  6. Make Slaw
    • Toss cabbage with lime juice, cilantro, and salt.
  7. Assemble Tacos
    • Warm tortillas.
    • Add slaw, bang bang shrimp, drizzle extra sauce.
    • Finish with avocado, green onions, or cilantro.

Tips & Variations

  • 🔥 Extra crispy: Use all cornstarch instead of flour
  • 🍤 Healthier: Air-fry shrimp at 400°F for 8–10 minutes
  • 🌮 Low-carb: Serve in lettuce wraps
  • 🧀 Add crumbled cotija or queso fresco for a salty pop
