🥔 Perfect Baked Potato Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 2–4)

  • 4 large Russet potatoes (they’re best for baking)

  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil (or melted butter)

  • 1–2 tsp kosher salt


Instructions

1. Preheat oven:

  • Heat to 400°F (200°C).

2. Prep the potatoes:

  • Scrub potatoes well to remove dirt.

  • Pat completely dry.

  • Pierce each potato 4–5 times with a fork (so steam can escape).

  • Rub all over with olive oil or butter, then sprinkle generously with salt.

3. Bake:

  • Place directly on the oven rack (you can set a baking sheet on the rack below to catch drips).

  • Bake 50–60 minutes, depending on size, until the skins are crisp and a fork slides in easily.

4. Serve:

  • Cut a slit down the top, squeeze gently to open, and fluff the inside with a fork.

  • Skip foil — baking directly on the rack makes the skin crispy.

  • If you prefer softer skin, wrap each potato in foil before baking.
