Baked lobster tails with garlic butter

Posted on October 31, 2025 by Admin

Baked Lobster Tails with Garlic Butter—the epitome of elegance and indulgence! Lobster tails are rich and buttery on their own, but when you top them with a fragrant, garlicky butter sauce and bake them to perfection, it becomes a mouthwatering dish that’s surprisingly easy to make at home.

Here’s how to make Baked Lobster Tails with Garlic Butter:

Baked Lobster Tails with Garlic Butter

Ingredients:

  • 4 lobster tails (about 4–6 oz each)

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), melted

  • 4-5 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice (about 1/2 lemon)

  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional, for color)

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions:

1. Prep the Lobster Tails:

  • Thaw (if frozen): If using frozen lobster tails, thaw them in the fridge overnight or under cold running water for about 30 minutes.

  • Cut the Shell: Using a sharp kitchen shears or a knife, cut the top shell of the lobster tail lengthwise down the center. Be careful not to cut all the way through to the tail. You want to expose the meat but leave the shell intact to keep it in place.

  • Remove the Vein: If there’s a vein (the dark line running through the lobster meat), remove it carefully using a small knife or a pair of tweezers.

  • Lift the Lobster Meat: Gently lift the lobster meat out of the shell, but leave the end of the tail attached. Rest the lobster meat on top of the shell, creating a “butterflied” effect. This allows the butter to soak into the meat and helps it cook evenly.

2. Prepare the Garlic Butter:

  • In a small bowl, melt the unsalted butter in the microwave or on the stovetop.

  • Add the minced garlic, lemon juice, paprika, salt, and black pepper to the melted butter. Stir until well combined. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. If you like it extra garlicky, feel free to add more minced garlic!

3. Bake the Lobster Tails:

  • Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  • Place the lobster tails on a baking sheet: Arrange the prepared lobster tails on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil or parchment paper.

  • Drizzle the garlic butter: Pour or spoon the garlic butter over the lobster meat, making sure it’s evenly coated. Reserve a little bit of the garlic butter for later drizzling.

  • Bake: Place the lobster tails in the preheated oven and bake for 12–15 minutes, depending on the size of the tails. The lobster is done when the meat is opaque and firm to the touch. You’ll also see the shell turn bright red/orange.

4. Broil (Optional for a Golden Top):

  • For a beautifully golden and slightly crispy top, switch the oven to broil for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking. Keep a close eye on it so the lobster doesn’t burn.

5. Serve:

  • Once done, remove the lobster tails from the oven and drizzle with the remaining garlic butter. You can also sprinkle freshly chopped parsley over the lobster tails for a fresh, herbaceous finish.

  • Serve the lobster tails with lemon wedges on the side for an extra citrusy kick.

Pro Tips:

  • Check for doneness: Lobster cooks quickly, and overcooking can lead to rubbery meat. If the lobster meat is opaque and firm, it’s ready.

  • Flavor variations: Add a little Old Bay seasoning, a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for spice, or even some parmesan cheese to the garlic butter for extra flavor.

  • Make ahead: You can prepare the lobster tails up to the point of baking and keep them in the fridge until ready to bake. Just make sure to bring them to room temperature before cooking.

Serving Suggestions:

Baked lobster tails are a great main dish for a special occasion or a fancy date night. Here are a few ways to pair them:

  • Garlic mashed potatoes or creamy risotto: Both are rich, comforting sides that complement the buttery lobster.

  • Grilled asparagus or steamed broccoli: A light, green vegetable balances out the richness of the lobster.

  • Crispy bread: A warm baguette or garlic bread is perfect for dipping into the leftover garlic butter sauce.

Lobster tails might seem like a luxury, but this recipe is incredibly simple and allows you to enjoy restaurant-quality lobster at home. You can also experiment with adding extra flavors, like a splash of white wine to the garlic butter or some chopped chives for garnish. What do you think—are you more into classic lobster or do you like to experiment with flavor combos?
