Baked French Dip Biscuits

Posted on December 2, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a delicious, easy recipe for Baked French Dip Biscuits—perfect for a cozy dinner or game-day meal. Think tender, buttery biscuits filled with roast beef and gooey cheese, served with savory au jus for dipping.

🥖🧀 Baked French Dip Biscuits

Ingredients (makes 6–8 biscuits)

Biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp cold butter, cubed
  • ¾ cup buttermilk

Filling

  • 1–1½ cups cooked roast beef, thinly sliced
  • ½–1 cup shredded Swiss or provolone cheese
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional)

Au Jus (for dipping)

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Instructions

1. Preheat oven

Preheat to 425°F (220°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment.

2. Make the biscuits

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add buttermilk and stir until just combined.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface, gently fold a few times.
  5. Roll or pat out to about 1-inch thick and cut into rounds (or scoop with a biscuit cutter).

3. Assemble the biscuits

  1. Pre-bake biscuits for 5–7 minutes to slightly firm up (optional but helps prevent soggy bottoms).
  2. Carefully slice biscuits horizontally.
  3. Layer roast beef, cheese, and a small smear of Dijon mustard (if using).
  4. Top with the other biscuit half.

4. Bake

Bake for 10–12 minutes until biscuits are golden and cheese is melted.
(Optional: brush tops with melted butter before baking for extra richness.)

5. Make the au jus

While biscuits bake, combine beef broth, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a small saucepan.
Simmer for 5–10 minutes until flavors meld.

6. Serve

  • Serve hot with warm au jus on the side for dipping.
  • Optionally add caramelized onions or horseradish sauce for extra flavor.

🔄 Variations

  • Mini sliders: Make smaller biscuits for appetizer-sized sandwiches.
  • Cheesy garlic: Brush tops with garlic butter and sprinkle extra cheese.
  • Slow-cooker beef: Use shredded slow-cooked beef instead of pre-cooked slices.
  • Spicy twist: Add a few dashes of hot sauce or chipotle mayo.

I can also provide a shortcut one-pan version using store-bought biscuits and roast beef if you want to make it in under 20 minutes.
