Here’s a classic Apple Turnovers recipe — flaky puff pastry filled with sweet, cinnamon-spiced apples, perfect for breakfast, dessert, or snacks.

🍏 Apple Turnovers

⭐ Ingredients (makes 6–8 turnovers)

Filling

  • 3 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and diced
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (to thicken)

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed (about 8×8-inch sheet)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting or simple glaze

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the filling

  1. In a bowl, toss diced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour.
  2. Set aside while preparing pastry.

2. Prepare puff pastry

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry slightly on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Cut pastry into 6–8 squares (depending on size).

3. Assemble turnovers

  1. Place 1–2 tbsp of apple filling in the center of each square.
  2. Fold pastry over to form a triangle or rectangle.
  3. Press edges with a fork to seal.
  4. Brush tops with beaten egg.
  5. Optional: cut a small slit in the top for steam to escape.

4. Bake

  • Place turnovers on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Bake 20–25 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.

5. Serve

  • Cool slightly.
  • Optional: dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with a simple glaze (powdered sugar + milk + vanilla).
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.

⭐ Tips & Variations

  • Extra flavor: Add a pinch of cloves or ginger to the apple filling.
  • Caramel twist: Drizzle caramel sauce over the finished turnovers.
  • Nutty version: Add chopped walnuts or pecans to the filling.
  • Mini turnovers: Cut puff pastry into smaller squares for bite-sized treats.
  • Make ahead: Assemble and freeze before baking; bake straight from frozen (add 5–7 minutes).

If you want, I can also give a Southern-style apple turnover recipe with a buttery cinnamon-sugar glaze, perfect for holidays or special occasions.
