Apple roses are beautiful, flaky little pastries that look fancy but are surprisingly easy to make. They’re perfect for desserts, brunch, or special occasions.
🌹 Apple Roses (Easy Puff Pastry Recipe)
Ingredients (Makes 6–8 apple roses)
- 2 red apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala work best)
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- Juice of ½ lemon
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons apricot preserves or apple jelly
- Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Prep the apples
- Cut apples in half and remove cores.
- Slice very thin (a mandoline works best).
- Place slices in a bowl with lemon juice and enough water to cover.
- Microwave for 2–3 minutes until slices are soft and flexible. Drain and pat dry.
- Prepare puff pastry
- Roll out puff pastry slightly on a floured surface.
- Cut into 6–8 long strips (about 2 inches wide).
- Flavor the pastry
- Warm the apricot preserves slightly and spread a thin layer on each pastry strip.
- Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle lightly over preserves.
- Assemble the roses
- Lay apple slices along one edge of the pastry strip, slightly overlapping, with the rounded edges sticking out.
- Fold the bottom half of the pastry over the apples.
- Roll tightly from one end to the other to form a rose shape.
- Bake
- Place roses into a greased muffin tin.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 35–40 minutes, until golden and puffed.
- Finish
- Cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar if desired.
💡 Tips for Perfect Apple Roses
- Slice apples very thin so they bend easily without breaking.
- If pastry browns too fast, loosely cover with foil halfway through baking.
- Add a drizzle of honey or caramel for extra sweetness.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an elegant dessert.
