Apple pies

Here’s a classic homemade Apple Pie recipe — buttery flaky crust, tender cinnamon apples, and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. This is the traditional, all-American version!

🥧 Classic Apple Pie

⭐ Ingredients (1 pie)

Pie Filling

  • 6 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour (or 2 tbsp cornstarch for a glossier filling)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Optional: ½ tsp vanilla extract or ¼ tsp allspice

Crust

  • 2 refrigerated pie crusts or homemade
  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (egg wash)
  • Optional: coarse sugar for sprinkling

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Preheat

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

2. Make the filling

In a large bowl combine:

  • Sliced apples
  • Sugar + brown sugar
  • Lemon juice
  • Flour or cornstarch
  • Cinnamon, nutmeg, salt
  • (Optional) vanilla

Let stand 10–15 minutes so the apples release some juices.

3. Assemble the pie

  1. Lay one crust into a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. Pour the apple filling inside, including juices.
  3. Dot the top with 1–2 tbsp butter (optional but traditional).
  4. Place the second crust over the filling.
  5. Trim edges, crimp to seal, and cut 4–5 slits for steam.
  6. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.

4. Bake

  • Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to 350°F (175°C) and bake another 35–45 minutes.
  • Pie is done when crust is golden and filling is bubbling.

If edges brown too fast, cover them with foil.

5. Cool & Serve

  • Let cool at least 2 hours for the filling to set.
  • Serve warm with:
    • Vanilla ice cream
    • Whipped cream
    • Caramel drizzle

⭐ Variations

Dutch Apple Pie

  • Top with a crumble of butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour.

Salted Caramel Apple Pie

  • Drizzle caramel between apple layers before baking.

Mini Apple Pies

  • Use muffin tins and bake 18–22 minutes.

Hand Pies

  • Cut circles from pie dough, fill, fold, crimp, and bake 12–15 minutes at 400°F.

Fried Apple Pies (Southern-style)

  • Fill small dough rounds, fold, seal, and fry in shallow oil — like old-time fairs.

If you want, I can also give you Southern fried apple pies, apple turnovers, or a deep-dish bakery-style apple pie. Just say the word!
