Apple Brownies
Servings: 12
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Bake Time: 30–35 minutes
Ingredients:
For the brownies:
-
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
-
1 cup granulated sugar
-
2 large eggs
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
-
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
-
1/4 tsp salt
-
1/4 tsp baking powder
For the apple layer:
-
1–2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and finely chopped
-
2 tbsp brown sugar
-
1/2 tsp cinnamon
-
1 tsp lemon juice (optional, to prevent browning)
Instructions:
-
Preheat oven:
-
Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
-
Grease and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
-
-
Prepare the apple layer:
-
In a small bowl, toss chopped apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Set aside.
-
-
Make the brownie batter:
-
In a medium bowl, mix melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
-
Stir in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder until just combined.
-
-
Assemble the brownies:
-
Spread half of the brownie batter evenly in the prepared pan.
-
Sprinkle the apple mixture evenly over the batter.
-
Carefully spread the remaining brownie batter over the apples (it’s okay if some apples peek through).
-
-
Bake:
-
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
-
-
Cool and serve:
-
Let cool completely in the pan before slicing.
-
Optional: Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with caramel sauce.
-
Tips & Variations:
-
🍏 Apple variety: Use sweet-tart apples like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith.
-
🍫 Chocolatey twist: Fold in chocolate chips with the brownie batter.
-
🍯 Caramel addition: Drizzle caramel over the top before baking for an extra indulgent treat.
-
🥧 Mini apple brownies: Bake in a muffin tin for portable individual servings.
I can also provide a spiced apple blondie version that uses brown sugar and cinnamon for a lighter, chewy texture instead of traditional cocoa brownies. Do you want that version?
