Here’s a classic comfort-food Ground Beef & Gravy with Mashed Potatoes recipe—simple, hearty, and perfect for an easy weeknight meal 🍽️


Ground Beef & Gravy with Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients (serves 4)

Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 lb potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold)
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½–¾ cup milk or cream
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

Ground Beef & Gravy

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1½–2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Make the mashed potatoes

  1. Peel and cube potatoes.
  2. Boil in salted water 15–20 minutes until fork-tender.
  3. Drain and mash with butter and milk.
  4. Season and keep warm.

2. Cook the ground beef

  1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned.
  2. Add onion and cook 2–3 minutes until soft.
  3. Drain excess grease if needed.

3. Make the gravy

  1. Add butter to the skillet and melt.
  2. Sprinkle in flour and stir for 1 minute.
  3. Slowly whisk in beef broth.
  4. Stir in Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Simmer 5–7 minutes until thickened.

4. Serve

  • Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates.
  • Top with ground beef and gravy.
  • Optional: garnish with parsley or cracked black pepper.

Tips & Variations

  • Extra richness: Add a splash of cream or a pat of butter to the gravy.
  • Mushroom gravy: Add sliced mushrooms with the onions.
  • Southern style: Serve with buttered peas or green beans.
  • Make it stretch: Add corn or peas to the beef mixture.
