🥘 Cabbage, Shrimp, and Sausage Skillet
Ingredients
-
1 lb (450 g) shrimp, peeled and deveined
-
12 oz (340 g) smoked sausage (like andouille or kielbasa), sliced into rounds
-
½ medium head of green cabbage, chopped (about 5–6 cups)
-
1 small onion, sliced
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
2 tablespoons olive oil or butter (divided)
-
1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning (or more to taste)
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
-
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (optional — brightens the dish)
-
Red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)
-
Fresh parsley or green onions, for garnish
Instructions
-
Cook the sausage:
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add sausage slices and cook 3–4 minutes until browned on both sides. Remove and set aside. -
Sauté the veggies:
In the same pan, add the remaining oil.
Add onion and garlic, sauté 1–2 minutes.
Then add chopped cabbage, season with a pinch of salt, and cook 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it starts to soften. -
Add seasoning and vinegar:
Sprinkle Cajun seasoning and (optional) vinegar over the cabbage. Stir well to coat. -
Add shrimp:
Nestle shrimp into the cabbage mixture. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until pink and opaque. -
Combine:
Return the sausage to the skillet. Toss everything together and cook another minute so the flavors meld. -
Taste and finish:
Adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes as desired.
Garnish with parsley or green onions.
