Here’s a crispy, golden, and flavorful Popcorn Shrimp recipe—perfect as an appetizer, snack, or party treat!


🍤 Crispy Popcorn Shrimp

Ingredients (serves 4)

Shrimp

  • 1 lb small shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Breading

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornmeal or panko (for extra crunch)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • Optional: ½ tsp cayenne pepper for heat

For Frying

  • Vegetable, canola, or peanut oil
  • Oil temperature: 350°F (175°C)

Optional Dipping Sauce

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1–2 tsp sriracha or hot sauce
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

1. Prep the shrimp

  1. Rinse and pat shrimp dry.
  2. Toss with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.

2. Prepare the breading

  1. Place flour and cornmeal (or panko) in a shallow bowl.
  2. Beat eggs in another bowl.
  3. Optional: mix cayenne into flour for a spicy kick.

3. Bread the shrimp

  1. Dip each shrimp in egg, then coat evenly with flour/cornmeal mixture.
  2. Shake off excess.

4. Fry the shrimp

  1. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep skillet or fryer.
  2. Fry shrimp in batches 2–3 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

5. Make the dipping sauce (optional)

  • Mix mayonnaise, sriracha, and lemon juice.
  • Serve alongside hot popcorn shrimp.

Tips for Perfect Popcorn Shrimp

  • Keep shrimp chilled until ready to fry.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan—frying in batches ensures crispiness.
  • For extra crunch, double-dip: egg → flour → egg → flour.
  • Serve immediately for best texture.
