Fried Salmon Patties

Posted on December 3, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a classic Southern-style Fried Salmon Patties recipe—crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful inside. Works with canned or fresh salmon!

⭐ Fried Salmon Patties

Makes: 6–8 patties
Cook time: 10–12 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 (14–15 oz) can salmon, drained
or 1 lb cooked flaked salmon
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup finely diced onion
  • 2–3 tablespoons mayonnaise (adds moisture)
  • 1 tablespoon mustard (yellow or Dijon)
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (or paprika + garlic powder)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2–3 tablespoons oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or light olive oil)

Optional add-ins:

  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne for heat
  • A squeeze of lemon

Instructions:

1. Prepare the mixture

In a bowl, combine:

  • Salmon (remove large bones if using canned)
  • Breadcrumbs/crackers
  • Egg
  • Onion
  • Mayonnaise
  • Mustard
  • Seasonings

Mix until everything sticks together.
If too wet → add a little more crumbs.
If too dry → add a splash of mayo or water.

2. Form the patties

Shape into 6–8 patties about ½ inch thick.

3. Fry the patties

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add patties without crowding the pan.
  • Cook 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.

4. Serve

Serve hot with:

  • Tartar sauce
  • Hot sauce
  • Lemon wedges
  • Over white rice
  • On a bun as a salmon patty sandwich

⭐ Tips for Perfect Salmon Patties

  • Let the mixture rest 5–10 minutes before forming—it helps bind.
  • Panko breadcrumbs make patties lighter and crispier.
  • If you want a deeper golden crust, lightly dust patties in flour before frying.
  • They reheat beautifully in the air fryer (375°F for 3–4 minutes).
