Here’s a fun and tasty recipe for Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls — all the flavors of a classic Philly cheesesteak wrapped in a crispy egg roll. Perfect appetizer or snack!


🥩🧅 Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls

Ingredients (makes 8–10 egg rolls)

Filling

  • ½ lb thinly sliced beef (ribeye, sirloin, or deli-style roast beef)
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 1–2 tsp olive oil
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 4 oz shredded provolone or American cheese

Egg Rolls

  • 8–10 egg roll wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
  • Oil for frying (or spray for air fryer)

Instructions

1. Cook the filling

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Sauté onions and peppers (and mushrooms if using) until softened, 4–5 minutes.
  3. Add thinly sliced beef and garlic powder. Cook 3–4 minutes until beef is browned.
  4. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Remove from heat and let slightly cool.
  6. Stir in shredded cheese while filling is warm.

2. Assemble egg rolls

  1. Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface in a diamond shape.
  2. Spoon about 2–3 tbsp of the filling in the center.
  3. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, fold in the sides, then roll tightly.
  4. Brush the top corner with beaten egg to seal. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.

3. Cook the egg rolls

Frying

  1. Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fry egg rolls 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  3. Drain on paper towels.

Air Fryer

  1. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Lightly spray egg rolls with cooking spray.
  3. Cook 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy and golden.

4. Serve

  • Serve warm with ketchup, hot mustard, or a side of cheese sauce for dipping.
  • Optional: garnish with chopped parsley or green onions.

  • Cheese Choice: Provolone, American, or even mozzarella work.
  • Vegetarian: Swap beef for sautéed mushrooms, zucchini, or plant-based meat.
  • Make Ahead: Fill and roll, then freeze unbaked; cook straight from frozen, adding a couple extra minutes.
  • Crispier: Brush lightly with oil before air frying for maximum crunch.
