Here’s a detailed recipe for Baked French Dip Biscuits, a savory and comforting dish that’s perfect for sandwiches or as a hearty appetizer:

🥖 Ingredients (serves 4–6)

For the Biscuits:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 6 tbsp cold unsalted butter, cubed

  • ¾ cup buttermilk

For the Roast Beef Filling:

  • 1 lb thinly sliced roast beef

  • 4–6 slices of cheese (Swiss, provolone, or cheddar)

  • Optional: sautéed onions or mushrooms

For the Au Jus (dipping sauce):

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional: 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tsp water (for slightly thicker sauce)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make the Biscuits

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Stir in buttermilk until dough comes together.

  5. Turn dough onto a floured surface, gently knead 2–3 times, and pat into a rectangle about ¾ inch thick.

  6. Cut into squares or rounds and place on a baking sheet.

  7. Bake 12–15 minutes until golden brown.

2. Prepare the Au Jus

  1. In a small saucepan, combine beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.

  2. Simmer for 5–7 minutes.

  3. Optional: Add cornstarch slurry to thicken slightly. Season with salt and pepper. Keep warm.

3. Assemble the Biscuits

  1. Slice biscuits in half horizontally.

  2. Layer roast beef and a slice of cheese on the bottom half. Add optional sautéed onions or mushrooms.

  3. Top with the other half of the biscuit.

4. Serve

  • Serve warm with a small bowl of au jus for dipping.

💡 Tips

  • Make-ahead: Bake biscuits in advance and reheat before assembling.

  • Cheese melt: Place sandwiches under the broiler for 1–2 minutes to melt the cheese.

  • Extra flavor: Brush biscuits with garlic butter before baking for a richer taste.

  • Alternative: Use slider-sized biscuits for bite-sized French dip sandwiches.

Baked French Dip Biscuits combine soft, buttery biscuits with savory roast beef and melty cheese—perfect for dipping in rich au jus.

I can also provide a slow-cooker roast beef version that makes assembling the sandwiches even easier.
