Butter Swim Biscuits

Posted on November 26, 2025 by Admin

Here’s the classic, ultra-easy Butter Swim Biscuits recipe — fluffy on the inside, crispy and buttery on the outside. These take only minutes to mix and require no rolling or kneading!

🧈 Butter Swim Biscuits

Ingredients (makes 9 large biscuits)

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

1. Prep

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Pour the melted butter into an 8×8 or 9×9 baking dish (do not grease).

2. Make the Biscuit Dough

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Pour in buttermilk and stir until just combined (it will be a sticky batter).

3. Add Batter to the Butter

  1. Pour the biscuit dough directly over the melted butter in the baking dish.
  2. Spread gently to even it out — do not mix with the butter.
  3. The butter will float up the sides and over the dough (this is what makes the crispy edges!).

4. Score the Dough

  • Using a knife, score the top into 9 squares (helps them bake evenly).

5. Bake

  • Bake 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown on top and edges are crisp.

6. Serve

Let cool slightly, then cut and serve warm.
Amazing with honey, jam, gravy, or sausage and eggs.
