👩🍳 Instructions
1. Prepare the crust
-
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
-
Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or fingertips until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Gradually add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, until the dough comes together.
-
Divide dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
2. Prepare the filling
-
In a large bowl, toss apple slices with sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour until evenly coated.
-
Set aside.
3. Assemble the slab pie
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Roll out one disk of dough to fit a 13×9-inch sheet pan, leaving a slight overhang.
-
Transfer dough to pan and press into edges.
-
Pour the apple filling evenly over the crust.
-
Roll out the second dough disk and place on top of the apples. Trim excess dough and crimp edges.
-
Cut slits or a lattice on top to let steam escape.
-
Brush top with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.
4. Bake
-
Bake for 45–55 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and apples are bubbling.
-
Let cool slightly before cutting into squares or rectangles.
