Air fryer shrimp

Posted on November 24, 2025 by Admin

Air Fryer Shrimp is a quick and healthy way to make perfectly cooked shrimp with a crispy exterior and tender interior, all without the need for deep frying. The air fryer creates that golden crispness with little to no oil, making it a lighter alternative to traditional fried shrimp. Plus, it’s super easy to prepare and cooks in just a few minutes.

Here’s a simple and flavorful recipe for Air Fryer Shrimp:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off depending on preference)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (or melted butter for a richer flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (or regular paprika)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a little heat)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley (optional, for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Shrimp:

  • If your shrimp still have their shells on, peel them, leaving the tails on or off, depending on your preference. Devein the shrimp if needed.
  • Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. This will help them crisp up nicely in the air fryer.

2. Season the Shrimp:

  • In a large bowl, toss the shrimp with olive oil (or melted butter) until evenly coated.
  • Add the garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. Toss again until the shrimp are well-seasoned.

3. Preheat the Air Fryer:

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3-5 minutes, if required by your air fryer model.

4. Cook the Shrimp:

  • Place the shrimp in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Be sure not to overcrowd the shrimp so they can cook evenly. If necessary, cook in batches.
  • Air fry the shrimp at 400°F (200°C) for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through. The shrimp should be opaque and pink when fully cooked. Keep an eye on them to prevent overcooking, as shrimp cook quickly.

5. Serve:

  • Once the shrimp are done, remove them from the air fryer and sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley if desired.
  • Serve immediately with lemon wedges for squeezing over the shrimp.

Tips:

  • Cooking Time: Shrimp cook very quickly, so it’s important to keep an eye on them to avoid overcooking. Depending on their size, you may need to adjust the cooking time slightly.
  • Breaded Shrimp: For crispy breaded shrimp, you can dip the seasoned shrimp in flour, then an egg wash, and then breadcrumbs before air frying. This will create a crunchy coating around the shrimp.
  • Seasoning Variations: Feel free to experiment with different seasonings like Old Bay seasoning, Italian seasoning, or Cajun spice for a different flavor profile.
  • Serving Ideas: Serve your air fryer shrimp with a side of rice, in tacos, on top of a salad, or as an appetizer with dipping sauces like cocktail sauce or garlic butter.

Air Fryer Shrimp are quick, flavorful, and perfect for any meal. Whether you’re craving a healthy snack or a main dish, this recipe gives you crispy, succulent shrimp without the mess of frying. Enjoy your perfectly cooked shrimp! 🍤✨
