Posted on November 21, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a rich, moist Double Chocolate Cake recipe with deep chocolate flavor and a silky chocolate frosting. It’s easy, reliable, and perfect for any occasion.

🍫 Double Chocolate Cake (Moist & Rich)

Serves: 10–12

Time: 1 hour (plus cooling)

Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • 1½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk (or buttermilk for extra moisture)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water (or hot coffee for richer flavor)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

For the Chocolate Frosting

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup heavy cream (more as needed)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

1. Make the Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans (or one 9×13 pan).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  4. Pour in boiling water or hot coffee and mix carefully. The batter will be thin—this is correct.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Divide batter between pans and bake 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool in pans 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

2. Make the Frosting

  1. Beat butter until creamy.
  2. Add cocoa powder and mix well.
  3. Slowly beat in powdered sugar, alternating with heavy cream.
  4. Add vanilla and a pinch of salt.
  5. Beat 2–3 minutes until fluffy.
    • Add more cream for a softer frosting, more sugar for a firmer one.

3. Assemble

  • Place first cake layer on a plate, frost top.
  • Add second layer, frost top and sides generously.
  • Add chocolate shavings or extra chips if you’d like.

🍰 Tips for the Best Cake

  • Hot coffee deepens the chocolate flavor even if you don’t taste the coffee.
  • For a super moist cake, use buttermilk.
  • Chill 20 minutes before slicing for cleaner cuts.
