Apple and cocoa cake

Posted on November 21, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a moist and flavorful Apple and Cocoa Cake recipe — combines the sweetness of apples with a rich chocolatey cocoa flavor. Perfect for dessert or afternoon tea.

Apple and Cocoa Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped or grated
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square baking pan.

2. Mix dry ingredients

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. Cream butter and sugar

  • In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
  • Stir in vanilla extract.

4. Combine wet and dry ingredients

  • Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.

5. Fold in apples

  • Gently fold in chopped or grated apples (and nuts, if using).

6. Bake

  • Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake 35–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

7. Cool and serve

  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  • Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate glaze if desired.

Tips

  • Grated apples add more moisture, chopped apples give more texture.
  • For extra flavor, add 1 teaspoon cinnamon or a pinch of nutmeg to the dry ingredients.
  • This cake keeps well for 2–3 days at room temperature in an airtight container.

I can also give a one-bowl, quick-mix apple cocoa cake version that’s perfect for beginners and super easy to make.

Do you want that version?
