Pepper steak

Here’s a delicious, tender, and savory Pepper Steak recipe—full of juicy beef strips, colorful bell peppers, and a flavorful stir-fry sauce. It’s quick, easy, and perfect for busy weeknights!


Pepper Steak (Classic Stir-Fry)

Ingredients

For the steak:

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Vegetables:

  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red or yellow bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced (optional but adds great flavor)

Stir-Fry Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup beef broth (or water)
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional but adds richness)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (or honey)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar (or white vinegar)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4–1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

Instructions

1. Marinate the beef

In a bowl, mix:

  • Soy sauce
  • Cornstarch
  • Oil
  • Black pepper

Add sliced steak and toss to coat. Let sit 10–15 minutes.


2. Make the sauce

In a small bowl, whisk together all stir-fry sauce ingredients. Set aside.


3. Sear the steak

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

  • Add a little oil.
  • Cook the beef in a single layer (in batches if needed) for 1–2 minutes per side until browned.
  • Remove and set aside.

4. Cook the vegetables

In the same pan:

  • Add peppers and onions; sauté 3–4 minutes until slightly tender.
  • Add garlic and ginger; cook 30 seconds.

5. Combine

Return steak to the pan. Stir the sauce and pour it in.

Cook 2–3 minutes, stirring, until the sauce thickens and everything is coated and glossy.


6. Serve

Serve hot over:

  • Rice
  • Noodles
  • Cauliflower rice
  • Mashed potatoes (non-traditional but tasty!)

Garnish with sesame seeds or sliced green onions if you like.


Tips

✨ Slice the steak thinly—this helps it stay tender.
✨ Freeze steak for 20 minutes before slicing to make it easier.
✨ Add mushrooms or snap peas for extra veggies.
