Here’s an easy, classic, flavor-packed baked beans recipe—perfect for cookouts, potlucks, or a cozy dinner at home. You can make it with canned beans for convenience or bake them low-and-slow for richer flavor. This version uses canned beans and adds smoky, sweet, savory goodness!

Classic Baked Beans (Easy & Delicious)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups canned pork & beans (about 2–3 cans, 15 oz each)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard (or Dijon)
  • 2 tbsp molasses (optional but recommended!)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, diced (optional)
  • 4–5 slices bacon, chopped (optional but amazing)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional, for smoky flavor)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven

Heat to 350°F (175°C).

2. Cook the bacon (optional but adds big flavor)

  • In a skillet, cook the chopped bacon until lightly crispy.
  • Leave 1 tbsp of bacon drippings in the pan.
  • Add diced onion (and bell pepper if using) and sauté until soft.

3. Mix the beans

In a large bowl, combine:

  • Pork & beans
  • Brown sugar
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Molasses
  • Worcestershire
  • Smoked paprika
  • Cooked onions/peppers
  • Bacon

Stir well.

4. Bake

Pour into a casserole dish or Dutch oven.

Bake uncovered for 1 hour until bubbly and thickened.

For deeper flavor, bake at 300°F for 2 hours.

5. Serve

Serve warm with:

  • BBQ ribs
  • Burgers
  • Hot dogs
  • Grilled chicken
  • Cornbread

Tips & Variations

✨ Sweeter beans: Add a little more brown sugar or maple syrup.
🔥 Spicy beans: Add diced jalapeños or hot sauce.
🍖 Meatier version: Add cooked ground beef or smoked sausage.
🌱 Vegetarian: Skip the bacon and use a dash of liquid smoke.

If you want, I can also give you Southern-style baked beans, Boston baked beans, slow cooker baked beans, or smoky BBQ baked beans.
