Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken

Posted on November 20, 2025 by Admin

Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken is such a delicious dish—sweet, savory, and crispy with a little kick of garlic! It’s perfect for a quick dinner and definitely packs a flavor punch. Here’s a recipe you can try:

Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs if you prefer dark meat)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch (helps the chicken get extra crispy)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Honey Garlic Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium is best to control saltiness)
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or white vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup (optional, for added tang)
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional, for extra depth)
  • 1 tablespoon water (to thin the sauce, if needed)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (to thicken the sauce)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the chicken:
    • Flatten the chicken breasts (if thick) to an even thickness using a meat mallet or rolling pin. This ensures they cook evenly.
    • Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces if you’re making chicken bites, or leave it as full breasts if you prefer that.
  2. Dredge the chicken:
    • In one bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
    • In a second bowl, beat the eggs.
    • In a third bowl, combine the cornstarch.
    • Dip each piece of chicken into the flour mixture, then the egg, and then coat it with cornstarch. This three-step breading will make it extra crispy when fried.
  3. Fry the chicken:
    • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. You want the oil to be hot but not smoking.
    • Fry the chicken pieces in batches, avoiding overcrowding the pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the honey garlic sauce:
    • In a small saucepan, combine the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, ketchup (if using), and ginger (if using). Stir well.
    • Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
    • In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of water to make a slurry. Add the slurry to the sauce to thicken it, and let it simmer for another 1-2 minutes until it’s glossy and thickened to your liking.
  5. Coat the chicken:
    • Once the chicken is fried, pour the honey garlic sauce over the crispy chicken pieces, or toss them together in a large bowl to coat evenly. You can also serve the sauce on the side if you prefer to dip.
  6. Garnish:
    • Garnish with chopped green onions, sesame seeds, or a sprinkle of chili flakes for a little heat, if desired.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve your crispy honey garlic chicken with steamed rice, veggies, or a side salad for a complete meal!

Tips:

  • For a spicier kick: Add a teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce, or use Sriracha for a spicy honey garlic sauce.
  • To keep the chicken extra crispy: If you’re making this ahead of time, you can bake the chicken in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 10 minutes after frying to help retain the crispiness.
  • Make it into a stir-fry: If you prefer, you can add sautéed veggies like bell peppers, broccoli, and snap peas to the honey garlic sauce for a more rounded meal.

This dish is sweet, savory, and absolutely mouthwatering! Do you have a preferred side to go with it, or are you thinking of serving it with something special?
