Posted on November 19, 2025January 28, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a delicious, easy, Texas Toast Sloppy Joes recipe — a fun upgrade from the classic sandwich using buttery garlic toast as the base!

⭐ Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced (optional but classic)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Sloppy Joe sauce (Manwich or homemade—see below)
  • 1 tbsp ketchup (optional for extra sauciness)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 box frozen Texas toast garlic bread (8 slices)
  • 1–1½ cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Colby Jack, or mozzarella)

⭐ Instructions

1. Bake the Texas toast

Bake garlic Texas toast according to package instructions until golden and crisp (usually 8–10 minutes).

2. Cook the meat mixture

  1. In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat.
  2. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until veggies are soft.
  3. Drain any excess grease.
  4. Stir in Sloppy Joe sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper.
  5. Simmer 5–7 minutes until thick.

3. Build & broil

  1. Place baked Texas toast slices on a baking sheet.
  2. Spoon a generous amount of meat mixture onto each slice.
  3. Top with plenty of shredded cheese.
  4. Broil 1–2 minutes until the cheese melts and starts to bubble.

4. Serve

Serve hot—knife and fork recommended, because they are loaded!

⭐ Optional Add-Ons

  • Add jalapeños for heat
  • Top with sliced pickles
  • Drizzle with ranch or BBQ
  • Add bacon bits for extra richness

⭐ Homemade Sloppy Joe Sauce (optional)

Mix and simmer for 5 minutes:

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire
  • ½ tsp mustard
  • ¼ cup water
  • Salt, pepper
