Meatloaf

Here’s a classic, hearty Meatloaf recipe — simple, flavorful, and perfect for dinner with mashed potatoes or veggies. 🍖🥔


🍽️ Classic Meatloaf

Servings: 6

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour


Ingredients:

  • 1½ lbs ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork/turkey)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

  • ½ cup milk

  • 1 egg

  • ½ cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • Optional: 1 tsp dried thyme or Italian seasoning


Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.

  2. Mix meatloaf ingredients:
    In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and optional seasonings. Mix gently until just combined (don’t overwork the meat).

  3. Shape and top:
    Form the mixture into a loaf shape and place in the loaf pan. Spread a thin layer of ketchup on top for a glaze.

  4. Bake:
    Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

  5. Rest and serve:
    Let the meatloaf rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or green beans.


Tips & Variations:

  • 🧅 Vegetable boost: Add finely grated carrots, zucchini, or bell pepper to the meat mixture.

  • 🧀 Cheesy meatloaf: Fold in ½ cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella.

  • 🍅 Glaze variations: Mix ketchup with brown sugar, mustard, or barbecue sauce for a sweet-savory topping.

  • 🥩 Lean version: Use ground turkey or chicken with a bit of olive oil for moisture.
