Perfect Baked Potato Guide

1. Choose the right potato:

  • Russets are best—they’re starchy and fluffy inside when baked.

2. Prep:

  • Wash and scrub the potato.

  • Poke a few holes with a fork so steam can escape.

  • Optional: Rub with olive oil and sprinkle with salt for a crispier skin.

3. Bake:

  • Oven method: Preheat to 425°F (220°C). Bake directly on the oven rack for 45–60 minutes, depending on size.

  • Check doneness by squeezing gently (use a towel—it’ll be hot) or poking with a fork; it should feel soft inside.

4. Serve:

  • Slice open, fluff the inside with a fork.

  • Top with butter, sour cream, chives, cheese, bacon bits—whatever you like.

Tips:

  • For ultra-crispy skin, bake directly on the rack instead of on a pan.

  • You can also wrap in foil if you prefer softer skin.
