Stuffed potato cakes

Posted on November 17, 2025 by Admin

Stuffed potato cakes are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and filled with gooey, savory goodness. Here’s a delicious and easy recipe you’ll love:

⭐ Stuffed Potato Cakes (Crispy + Cheesy + Savory)

Ingredients (Makes 8–10 cakes)

For the potato mixture:

  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and boiled
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup flour (plus extra if needed)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)

For the filling (choose one or mix):

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar
  • OR: cooked ground meat (beef/chicken/turkey)
  • OR: sautéed mushrooms + onions
  • OR: spinach + feta
  • Add herbs like parsley or chives if desired

For frying:

  • Oil for pan-frying
  • Extra flour for dusting

Instructions

1. Make the potato dough

  1. Mash the boiled potatoes with butter until smooth.
  2. Add egg, flour, salt, pepper, and optional spices.
  3. Mix until a soft dough forms. If too sticky, add a little more flour.

2. Prep the filling

Use cheese, cooked meat, or veggies—anything that fits inside and doesn’t release too much liquid.

3. Shape the cakes

  1. Flour your hands lightly.
  2. Take a small ball of potato dough and flatten it into a disc.
  3. Place 1–2 tbsp of filling in the center.
  4. Fold edges over the filling and seal tightly.
  5. Flatten gently into a patty.

4. Cook

  1. Heat a skillet with a thin layer of oil over medium heat.
  2. Fry the cakes 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
  3. Let rest on a paper towel.

⭐ Serving Ideas

  • Serve with sour cream, garlic yogurt sauce, or sweet chili sauce.
  • Great as a side dish, snack, or vegetarian main.
  • They reheat beautifully in an air fryer.

If you want, I can give you a cheese-only version, a spicy version, or a Ukrainian-inspired stuffed potato cake (zrazy)!
