Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20–25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cooked breakfast sausage, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp melted butter or oil
  • Optional: chopped green onions or herbs for extra flavor

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease or line a muffin tin with paper liners.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients:

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

3. Add Cheese and Sausage:

  • Stir in cheddar cheese and cooked sausage until evenly distributed.

4. Combine Wet Ingredients:

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and melted butter.

5. Make the Batter:

  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Don’t overmix.
  • Fold in green onions or herbs if using.

6. Fill Muffin Tin:

  • Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin tin, filling each cup about 2/3 full.

7. Bake:

  • Bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let muffins cool slightly before removing from the tin.

Tips & Variations:

  • Cheese variety: Use pepper jack, mozzarella, or Swiss for different flavors.
  • Add veggies: Finely chopped bell peppers, spinach, or zucchini can be added to sneak in extra nutrients.
  • Make-ahead: These muffins freeze well—wrap individually and reheat in the microwave.
  • Spicy kick: Add a pinch of cayenne or red pepper flakes for a little heat.

These Sausage Muffins are soft, cheesy, and packed with savory flavor—perfect for a grab-and-go breakfast or a brunch spread.

If you want, I can also give a casserole-style sausage muffin bake that makes a whole pan of these in one go for easy meal prep. Do you want me to do that?
