Breadsticks

Posted on November 11, 2025 by Admin

Ah, breadsticks—soft, fluffy, or slightly crispy, and perfect as a snack or alongside pasta. Here’s a classic recipe that’s easy to make at home:

Soft Homemade Breadsticks

Ingredients (makes 12–16 breadsticks):

  • 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (plus extra for brushing)
  • Optional toppings: garlic powder, Parmesan cheese, dried herbs

Instructions:

  1. Activate yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make dough: In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead: Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape breadsticks: Punch down the dough, divide into 12–16 pieces, and roll each into a stick about 6–8 inches long. Place on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Second rise: Cover and let rise 20–30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven: 400°F (200°C).
  8. Bake: Brush breadsticks with olive oil and sprinkle with optional toppings. Bake 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Serve: Brush with a little more olive oil or melted butter and serve warm.

✅ Tips:

  • For a garlic flavor, mix minced garlic with melted butter and brush over the breadsticks after baking.
  • Add Parmesan cheese or herbs like rosemary or oregano for extra flavor.
  • For a slightly crispier texture, bake a minute or two longer and brush lightly with oil.

If you want, I can also give a cheesy stuffed breadsticks version that oozes mozzarella inside—perfect for dipping.

Do you want me to give that version?
