🍗 Slow Cooker Whole Chicken (Tender & Juicy)

Cooking a whole chicken in a slow cooker is one of the easiest ways to get fall-apart, flavorful meat with minimal effort.


🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (about 1.2–1.8 kg)
  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried herbs (thyme, oregano, or rosemary)
  • 1 onion (quartered)
  • 3–4 garlic cloves
  • 1 lemon (optional)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prep the Chicken

  • Remove giblets if included
  • Pat the chicken dry with paper towels
  • Rub with oil or butter all over

2️⃣ Season Well

  • Mix salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and herbs
  • Rub seasoning all over and inside the chicken

3️⃣ Add Flavor Base

  • Place onion, garlic, and lemon in the bottom of the slow cooker
  • Set the chicken on top (breast side up)

👉 No water needed—the chicken releases its own juices


4️⃣ Cook

  • Low: 6–7 hours
  • High: 3–4 hours

Cook until internal temp reaches 75°C (165°F)


5️⃣ Optional: Crispy Skin 🔥

Slow cookers don’t crisp the skin, so:

  • Transfer chicken to oven
  • Broil for 5–7 minutes until golden

🍽️ Serving Ideas

  • Serve with rice, roasted vegetables, or flatbread
  • Use leftovers for sandwiches, soups, or wraps

💡 Tips

  • Don’t overcook—it can get too soft
  • Let it rest 10 minutes before carving
  • Save the juices for broth or gravy
