Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies are a classic treat that everyone loves! These cookies are chewy on the inside, with slightly crisp edges, and loaded with melty chocolate chips. Here’s a recipe to make them just right:


🍪 Ingredients (Makes about 18–24 cookies)

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or a mix of milk and dark chocolate)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional, like walnuts or pecans)

  1. Preheat the oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats for easy cleanup.
  2. Cream the butter and sugars:
    • In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar using an electric mixer or stand mixer on medium speed.
    • Beat until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla:
    • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
    • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Mix the dry and wet ingredients:
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the cookies less soft.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts):
    • Gently fold in the chocolate chips and, if using, the chopped nuts. Don’t overmix to keep the dough soft.
  7. Scoop the dough:
    • Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to portion the dough into rounded balls, about 1–1 ½ inches in diameter.
    • Place the cookie dough balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 9–11 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are golden brown but the centers are still soft and slightly underbaked.
    • They will continue to cook slightly on the baking sheet once removed from the oven, so don’t worry if they look a little soft in the middle.
  9. Cool and enjoy:
    • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
    • Enjoy warm or store them in an airtight container for up to a week.

  • Use room-temperature butter: Softened butter is key to getting that perfect chewy texture.
  • Don’t overbake: For soft cookies, it’s crucial to remove them from the oven while the center is still slightly soft. The residual heat will finish cooking them.
  • Chill the dough (optional): If you have time, chill the cookie dough in the fridge for 30 minutes before baking. This helps the cookies hold their shape and prevents them from spreading too much.
  • Try a mix of chocolate chips: Combine semi-sweet chocolate chips with milk chocolate or even white chocolate chips for a fun twist.
