Apple fritters

Posted on November 6, 2025February 21, 2026 by Admin

Oh, perfect choice — apple fritters are the cozy, cinnamon-scented treat of fall (or any time you want something warm and sweet). They’re crisp on the outside, soft and apple-studded inside, and drizzled with glaze. 🍎✨

Here’s a classic homemade apple fritter recipe that works every time:

🍏 Old-Fashioned Apple Fritters

Ingredients (makes about 10 fritters)

For the fritters:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • ⅔ cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp are best)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the glaze:

  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Prepare the batter:

In a large bowl, whisk together:
flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

In a separate bowl, whisk together:
milk, eggs, and vanilla.

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined (the batter will be thick).
Fold in the chopped apples.

2. Fry the fritters:

  1. In a deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Drop heaping spoonfuls (about ¼ cup each) of batter into the oil. Don’t overcrowd.
  3. Fry 2–3 minutes per side, until deep golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a wire rack or paper towels.

(Tip: If your fritters are browning too quickly, lower the heat slightly to ensure the centers cook through.)

3. Glaze them:

Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
Dip warm fritters in glaze or drizzle over the top.
Let sit a few minutes for the glaze to set (if you can wait that long 😄).

Optional Add-ins & Variations

  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts for a nutty crunch.
  • Swap half the apples for diced pears for a twist.
  • Add a touch of lemon zest to brighten the flavor.

Serving Tip

Serve warm — they’re incredible fresh from the fryer. A dusting of powdered sugar or a scoop of vanilla ice cream takes them over the top.

Would you like a baked version (no frying, just oven-baked and glazed)? It’s a bit healthier but still has that fritter flavor.
