🥔 Baked Potato

Baked potato is a simple, classic dish made by cooking a whole potato until the inside is soft and fluffy, with a slightly crisp skin. It’s a versatile side or even a main dish depending on toppings.

How to Make a Baked Potato

Ingredients:

  • Large russet potatoes (best for baking)
  • Olive oil or butter (optional, for coating skin)
  • Salt

Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prep potatoes: Wash, scrub, and poke holes with a fork. Optional: rub skin with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
  3. Bake: Place directly on oven rack or on a baking sheet for 45–60 minutes, until a fork slides easily into the center.
  4. Serve: Cut open and fluff the interior with a fork.

Common Toppings

  • Butter and salt
  • Sour cream and chives
  • Shredded cheese
  • Bacon bits
  • Broccoli, chili, or other vegetables for a loaded potato

Tips

  • Russet potatoes are ideal because of their fluffy interior.
  • Foil wrapping is optional; it keeps skin soft but prevents crispiness.
  • For extra flavor, bake at a slightly lower temperature (400°F) for a longer time.

âś… Fun Fact: Baked potatoes have been a staple for centuries and became particularly popular in the United States during the 19th century because of their simplicity and nutritional value.

I can also give a recipe for “loaded baked potatoes” with multiple toppings for a hearty meal if you want.
