Slow cooker ribs

Posted on March 15, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple way to make Slow Cooker Ribs that come out tender, flavorful, and practically fall off the bone:

Ingredients:

  • 2–3 lbs pork baby back ribs or spare ribs
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for a little kick)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite)
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar or water

Instructions:

  1. Prep the ribs:
    • Remove the thin membrane on the back of the ribs if not already removed.
    • Cut the rack into 2–3 smaller sections to fit the slow cooker.
  2. Make the dry rub:
    • Mix brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne.
    • Rub evenly over both sides of the ribs.
  3. Slow cook:
    • Place ribs in the slow cooker, stacking them if needed.
    • Pour apple cider vinegar or water around the ribs (not directly on the rub).
    • Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours (or high for 3–4 hours) until tender.
  4. Add BBQ sauce:
    • Brush ribs with BBQ sauce and cook for an additional 15–30 minutes on low to let the sauce meld.
  5. Optional broil:
    • For a caramelized finish, place ribs on a baking sheet and broil for 5–8 minutes until the sauce is bubbly and slightly charred.

Serving ideas: Serve with coleslaw, corn on the cob, baked beans, or mashed potatoes for a hearty meal.

Pro tip: Slow cooking locks in moisture, but finishing under the broiler gives that sticky, slightly crispy exterior that makes ribs irresistible.

If you want, I can give a variant with a tangy apple-cider marinade and spice rub that makes the ribs extra flavorful without needing the broiler finish.
